Natchitoches Parish DA announces guilty pleas prior to jury trials in two felony gun cases

District Attorney Billy Joe Harrington announced guilty pleas and prison sentences in two separate felony gun cases prior to jury trials. Judge Lala Sylvester presided over both cases in Division B of the 10th Judicial District Court.

Tyland Darone Braden, 38, of Natchitoches, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Braden had previously been convicted of the illegal possession of Xanax and was prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was sentenced on the two charges to a total of ten years of incarceration at hard labor.

Special Prosecutor Cliff R. Strider, III prosecuted the case.

Daqualon Brimsey, 21, of Natchitoches, pleaded guilty to possession of a machine gun.

The guilty plea and sentence relate to a disturbance in March when Natchitoches Police Department detectives found Brimsey in possession of a nine-millimeter handgun that had been altered to fire automatically.

Brimsey was sentenced to eight years of incarceration at hard labor.

Steven Oxenhandler prosecuted the case.
