University Parkway roadwork near Youngs Bayou reopens to normal traffic

Motorists traveling along University Parkway (LA 6) near Youngs Bayou could see a return to normal traffic conditions by the end of Wednesday, October 21, as construction work on the roadway nears completion. Crews were seen earlier today removing concrete barricades, which were lifted onto semis for removal.

According to the latest project update, crews anticipated reopening the roadway to all traffic by the end of the day, provided all permanent pavement striping was installed.

Once striping is completed, the only remaining task will be the installation of permanent roadway signage.

The $2.85 million infrastructure improvement project, awarded to Siema Construction, LLC, began January 5, 2026, and covers a section of LA 6 from near Settles Boat Landing Road to the intersection with LA 1.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) launched the project to address infrastructure concerns near the Youngs Bayou bridges.

Construction included strengthening bridge abutments, addressing drainage issues, installing soil nail walls to reinforce the roadway, and completing clearing, grading, and asphalt paving improvements.
