Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District 4 visited Provencal Elementary School on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, to share its annual October Fire Safety and Prevention message with students in pre-kindergarten through third grade.
Firefighters Kasey Miller and Coltin McGee demonstrated the protective gear worn by firefighters and provided students with hands-on opportunities to explore various tools and equipment used during emergency operations.
The presentation also included the Natchitoches City Fire Department’s Fire Safety Trailer, which helped reinforce important fire prevention and emergency preparedness lessons.
Students learned about the importance of having a home evacuation plan, knowing their address, understanding how to call 911, and practicing the Stop, Drop and Roll technique, a fire safety lesson that has been taught since its first documented use in 1973.
Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District 4 thanked the Natchitoches City Fire Department for providing the Fire Safety Trailer to support the educational visit.
Captain Ricky Coe, firefighters Gary Robertson, Melanie Luman, Bryan Miller, and Dan Gongre, along with Chief James Dupree, also participated in the event, assisting with activities and distributing fire prevention materials to students.
