NPSO deputies complete annual Louisiana P.O.S.T. Council firearms re-qualifications

Last week, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies successfully completed their annual Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Council firearms re-qualifications at the Natchitoches Shooting Range.

The annual firearms re-qualifications involved handgun, patrol rifle, and shotgun proficiency courses designed to evaluate deputies’ firearms handling skills, accuracy, safety awareness, and ability to effectively operate department-issued firearms.

The re-qualifications were conducted and certified by Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies who are certified firearms instructors through the Louisiana P.O.S.T. Council.

Annual firearms training and re-qualifications are an important part of the Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to maintaining professional law enforcement standards, officer readiness, and public safety.

Sheriff Stuart Wright emphasized the importance of continued firearms proficiency and training in preparing deputies to respond safely and effectively to potentially dangerous situations.

“Firearms proficiency and safety are critical responsibilities for every law enforcement officer,” said Sheriff Wright. “Our deputies must be prepared to make sound decisions under stressful and rapidly changing circumstances. Annual re-qualifications help ensure that our personnel maintain the skills, confidence, and discipline necessary to protect themselves, their fellow deputies, and the citizens we proudly serve.”

Sheriff Wright also expressed his appreciation to the department’s certified firearms instructors for their dedication and professionalism in conducting the annual training.

“I want to thank our firearms instructors for their commitment to providing quality training and ensuring that our deputies meet established professional standards. Training is an ongoing investment in the safety of our deputies and the communities they serve. We remain committed to providing our personnel with the training and resources necessary to perform their duties professionally, responsibly, and safely,” Sheriff Wright added.

The Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to ongoing professional development, firearms safety, and maintaining a high level of operational readiness while serving and protecting the citizens of Natchitoches Parish.
