Natchitoches Parish President Rick Nowlin announces that the Johnson Chute Road north of the bridge over Johnson Chute Bayou has been closed due to high water.
The high water is the result of backwater flooding from the Red River.
The expected duration of the road closure is unknown. At this time, the National Weather Service predicts that the Red River at Grand Ecore will crest at near 34.7 feet this afternoon and will fall below flood stage early Saturday morning.
