First week of 2018 is busy for Fire District 4

FD-4 2018 (4)

It was a busy first week of the new year for Natchitoches Parish District 4 in Provencal. Members were paged out to a grass fire at a residence on LA 117 just south of LA 6 on Jan. 5.

Later that evening a structure fire on Winn Street in Provencal saw a swift response as Engines 1, 3, and 4, and Tankers 1 & 3 and 18 members located the seat of the mobile home fire. The fire began on the back of the home and spread under the floor to the front.

Firefighters Carson Custis and Ricky Coe checked back through the night and early morning hours to make sure no flare ups occurred.

Then on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 8:30 am another structure fire was reported. An unoccupied house on LA 117 was fully engulfed on arrival. The fire had spread to the surrounding underbrush. The power line had burned through and was sparking on the ground between the involved house and a nearby trailer.

Firefighters contained the brushfire and once the house fire was knocked down the overhaul process began, uncovering any hotspots and saturating them to extinguish the embers.
