NPSB: Transition Specialist and Assistant

Job Title: Transition Specialist

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and additional trade or vocational training or equivalent. Preferred: a minimum of two years of college work in special education, vocational education or rehabilitation courses.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of paid related work experience; experience working in a school setting; knowledge of distinguishing qualities of special education populations; experience with computer processing (Word, Excel, etc.); ability to organize daily tasks; office functions and schedules; valid LA driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation; ability to work in a flexible, cooperative and professional manner; project good interpersonal communication skills; ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and utilize effective time management skills.

Responsibilities: Provide transition services to students with disabilities within Natchitoches Parish School System to include, but not limited to; maintaining work records for PRE-ETS and WBLES, job exploration counseling, work-based training programs, workplace readiness training, counseling on transition and post-secondary training programs and instruction on self-advocacy.

Reports to: Natchitoches Parish Transition Facilitator

Terms of Employment: 12 months

Job Title: Transition Specialist Assistant

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree or equivalent college hours with additional training in data management, vocational education, transition, or equivalent. Preferred: Previous work with budgets, data management, education, or transition.

Experience: A minimum of three years of paid related work experience; experience working in a school setting; experience with computer word processing, database management and spreadsheet applications; ability to organize daily tasks, bookkeeping functions and schedules; valid LA driver’s license and ability to provide own transportation; availability to work scheduled hours outside of regular work/school day, if appropriate; ability to work in a flexible, cooperative and professional manner; project good interpersonal communication skills; prioritize tasks and utilize effective time management skills.
