The Rho Beta Omega and Eta Chi Chapters of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated presented seven young ladies to society on Nov. 3 at Magale Recital Hall. The theme of the gala was “Elegance and Excellence: A Dream Come True.”
The contestants were high school seniors from Lakeview High School, Natchitoches Central High School, and Peabody Magnet High School. The debutantes, their parents, escorts and tea girls were introduced during the presentation.
Special entertainment for the event featured vocalist Mrs. Angelia Stewart-Jones. Mrs. Kimberly Davis- Smith was the choreographer.
Raegen Washinton, Miss AKA Debutante 2018, crowned Miss Amber Swayzer as Miss AKA Debutante 2019. Other winners included Aspen Holmes, 1st Runner-Up, Isyss Paige, 2nd Runner-Up, and Ka’Bri’an Bonnier, 3rd Runner-Up. Aspen Holmes was also chosen by her peers as Miss Congeniality.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women and is comprised of nearly 300,000 college-trained members in the United States, the U.S. Virgin Islands, South Africa, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Liberia, Japan, and South Korea. Led by International President Dr. Glenda Glover, Alpha Kappa Alpha is often hailed as “America’s premier Greek letter organization for African-American women.”
