
Archery Season Here Opens Oct. 1, Not Saturday

Natchitoches Parish falls in Louisiana Deer Area 2, where archery deer season opens Thursday, Oct. 1. The Sept. 19 opening announced by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries applies to Deer Areas 3, 7, 8 and 10, none of which include Natchitoches Parish. Area 2 covers 23 parishes across north and central Louisiana. Hunters need a basic hunting license and deer license, must obtain tags before hunting regardless of age or license status, must carry tags in the field, and must tag a deer before moving it from where it was killed. Tags must be validated within 72 hours. Separate rules apply on Kisatchie National Forest lands and wildlife management areas in the parish. Full season dates and area boundaries are at wlf.louisiana.gov.
BPCC Natchitoches Sets Oct. 8 Career Fair

Bossier Parish Community College will hold a career fair from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, at its Natchitoches campus, 6587 Highway 1 Bypass. The fair is open to BPCC students, alumni and community job seekers looking for full-time, part-time, internship and career opportunities. Employer registration is free but space is limited, and organizations must register to reserve a table. Each registration includes a six-foot table and two chairs. Employer check-in and setup runs from 8 to 8:45 a.m.
CenturyLink’s Former CFO Endows NSU Alumni Association

Stewart Ewing of Monroe has created an endowment supporting Northwestern State University’s Alumni Association, funding alumni events, the Demons on the Road program and other initiatives connecting alumni to the university. Ewing earned a business degree from NSU in 1973 and spent 28 years as executive vice president and chief financial officer of CenturyLink, from 1989 to 2017, helping transform the company from a regional telephone provider into a global telecommunications firm. He is a member of the Long Purple Line, NSU’s alumni hall of distinction, and the NSU College of Business Hall of Fame, and received an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the university in 2017. He currently serves as chief financial officer of Intermountain Management and on the boards of Ribbon Communications and Progressive Bank. Ewing said a strong alumni association helps the university recruit students and strengthens it financially.
